FortisBC’s Indigenous Communities New Home Program is designed to support the adoption of the BC Energy Step Code, advance higher efficiency new construction, and enable both First Nations and homeowners to enjoy lower energy bills and more comfortable, durable, and healthy homes. Applications must be submitted after January 1, 2024 and must be received no later than 6 months after building completion or by December 31, 2025, whichever comes first.
Rebate Amount per home:
- Step Code 3 homes may qualify for $15,000
- Step Code 4 homes may qualify for $20,000
- Step Code 5 homes may qualify for $25,000
- Up to $7000 in design offer rebates, per home
Plus various rebates for installing other qualifying energy efficient measures such as drain water heat recovery and connected thermostats.

Who Can Apply:
Indigenous Governing Bodies (e.g. Band or First Nation) constructing eligible homes built in FortisBC’s electricity* and/or natural gas service area. Homes heated by natural gas must install a qualifying dual fuel heating system to be eligible.
This program is not available to individual applicants.
*Includes Grand Forks, Penticton, Summerland and Nelson Hydro
