Increasing the levels of insulation, and reducing air leakage, can be the most cost-effective, energy-saving measures a homeowner can undertake. The cost of upgrading your insulation can vary significantly based on the size of your home, the level of pre-existing insulation in your home, and the type and amount of new insulation that will be installed. It is important to note some of the related factors that may influence the cost of upgrading home insulation:
- Whether the contractor conducts air sealing prior to installing insulation (recommended)
- Whether any remediation is required to address damaged insulation, mould removal, asbestos removal, etc.
- The quality of the insulation installation. A professional insulation contractor installing to a high level of quality will cost more.
It is important to note that the costs associated with professional insulation installation may be offset by access to rebates and will be offset by reduced heating and cooling costs over the life of the home.
